Overview
Green water often involves algae, but colour and cloudiness can also reflect metals, suspended material, poor filtration or an incomplete chemical correction. A clear pool also needs an operating sanitation and circulation system. Test before adding products.
Check first
- Check whether the floor and main-drain area are clearly visible.
- Test free chlorine and pH with a kit, or bring a fresh sample into the shop.
- Confirm pump flow, filter condition, chlorinator operation and the current schedule.
- Note the colour, wall feel, recent rain, heat, swimmer load, top-up water and chemicals already added.
- Photograph the pool in daylight before treatment so progress can be compared.
Stop and call a technician
- The floor cannot be seen clearly.
- There has been a faecal, chemical or unknown contamination event.
- The pump or chlorinator is not operating.
- Previous chemical additions are unknown or may have been mixed.
- Water does not respond to a measured treatment and filtration plan.
