Overview
Pool chemicals protect water when correctly selected and dosed, but concentrated products can burn, react, release gas or start a fire when contaminated or mixed. Treat every container as product-specific, even when two labels appear to serve the same purpose.
Check first
- Read the full product label and current safety data sheet before opening the container.
- Keep products in original labelled containers, dry, upright and secured from children and animals.
- Separate incompatible products, especially chlorine products, acids, fuels, oils, detergents and organic material.
- Use clean, dry, dedicated measuring equipment for one product only.
- Add and circulate products exactly as the label states. Never combine concentrates or return spilled material to a container.
Stop and call a technician
- A container is hot, swollen, leaking, smoking or giving off gas.
- Products have been mixed or a product identity is unknown.
- There has been eye, breathing, skin or ingestion exposure.
- A spill reaches a drain, soil, vehicle or incompatible material.
- The label, required protective equipment or safe dose cannot be confirmed.
